Norfolk Campsites – Broads, Coast & Big Skies

Norfolk is quietly one of England’s best camping counties. The North Norfolk Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of salt marshes, wide sandy beaches, and small harbour towns, is one of the finest stretches of unspoilt coastline in the east of England. Inland, the Norfolk Broads offer a completely different experience: Britain’s largest protected wetland, threaded by 125 miles of navigable rivers and lakes ideal for paddling, sailing, and watching the sun set over open water.

Best Areas to Camp in Norfolk

North Norfolk Coast – The AONB coastline between Holme-next-the-Sea and Sheringham is the jewel of Norfolk camping. Wells-next-the-Sea, Holkham Bay, Burnham Deepdale, Blakeney, and Morston Quay are all within this stretch. The beaches are vast and relatively uncrowded even in summer, the light is extraordinary, and the coastal path makes for excellent walking between sites. Seal-watching boat trips from Blakeney Point are a highlight.

Norfolk Broads – The national park’s slow-moving rivers and broads (broad shallow lakes) make for a very different kind of camping experience. Sites around Wroxham, Horning, Ludham, and Oulton Broad put you in the heart of the waterways. Hire a day boat from your campsite, paddleboard at sunrise on a deserted broad, or simply watch the wildlife from a riverside pitch.

West Norfolk – A quieter, less-visited stretch of coast between Hunstanton (where the sun sets over the sea, a rare thing on England’s east coast) and King’s Lynn, with access to the Sandringham Estate and the RSPB reserve at Titchwell Marsh.

Norwich and South Norfolk – Campsites within easy reach of Norwich, a city that punches well above its size for food, culture, and independent shops. The Bure Valley and the Broads are close to hand.

Things to Do

Birdwatching is a serious draw in Norfolk, the coastal reserves at Titchwell Marsh, Cley Marshes, and Holkham are among the best in England for migrating and wintering species. On the Broads, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing are the natural pursuits. The coastal towns offer crab fishing off the harbour walls, seal trips from Blakeney, and some outstanding fish and chip shops. Inland, Blickling Estate (National Trust), Norwich Cathedral, and BeWILDerwood adventure woodland are all popular family attractions. Thetford Forest, the largest lowland pine forest in England, offers cycling trails and forest walks south of the county.
